Why is the app asking for Location Services to be on?
Android demands location services to be on when using Bluetooth Low Energy. As this is the mechanism we use for doing the firmware update and getting the correct firmware number from your SAT or SUB, you need to have location services switched ON on your phone.
My device gets disconnected
If the firmware update at a certain point fails, you can always click “Retry update”. If you did that 2 or 3 time and it still fails, try the following steps:
- Long press the SAT to switch it off or disconnect the SUB to switch it off. Switch the SAT or SUB back on. Neglect whatever lights may be blinking but as soon a these are stable blinking or solid just click “Retry update”
- If step 1 did not help: Kill the app, and start the app again and try it again.
- If step 2 did not help: Kill the app. Switch Bluetooth off your phone and switch it a few seconds later back on. Start the app again.
- If step 3 did not help: Reboot your phone. This is seldom necessary.
If the SAT or SUB disconnects after 60% this means the first part of the firmware update was successful. If you then try to update again the app only needs to update the second part. If that fails again, follow the steps above.
After the full update your SAT or SUB may also disconnect from your phone. Normally the SAT or SUB should reboot by itself and the connection should come back. If not: Please switch the SAT off and back on or disconnect and reconnect the SUB to power.
My update is slow
On most phones the full firmware update will take 25 to 30 minutes. The first part takes 60%. The second part takes 40%. You will see the first 3% go fast. That is when the app downloads the first update part. There may be some time after the first 3% before the update further progresses. The same happens at 60%.
On some phones, like the Samsung S10e with Android 10, the update is extremely slow. This is the result of a bug in the Bluetooth implementation on these phones. We have seen reports that on the Samsung S10e this will be solved. The update on these phones may take 1:30 hours.
During the current update the firmware number should change from n002p004 to n003p005. If your firmware number at a certain point has become n002p005 this means that the firmware update was partially successful. If you then try to do the update again only the part that failed will be updated. In this example the part n002 to n003.
My update is hanging at 3% and/or changing the volume doesn't do anything
SAT Leader only!
Sometimes you will notice that you start the app and the volume dials do not work although the app says the SAT has been found. You will also notice that the app does not progress any further than 3% doing the firmware update for more than a 1 minute. It then can be that the SAT is incorrectly paired to your Android device. Solution: Go to the Bluetooth settings of your Android phone and delete (forget) the connection to the SAT. Reboot the SAT and pair your SAT again. This should help.
